Recently I realized that music and raves can be a spiritual practice, and few artists embody this statement more than Gina Turner, who combines a mindfulness and yoga practice with her performances for the ultimate way to connect your mind and body.

As a renowned DJ and passionate yoga instructor, she masterfully blends pulsating beats with calming practices, creating a unique experience for her audience. With her upcoming performance at the Off the Grid Campout on the horizon, we caught up with Gina to explore her production process, her evolving musical inspirations, and how motherhood shapes her artistry.Ā

iHR: Tell us about your production process on your music. How do you find inspiration?

Gina Turner: These days I find inspiration in the brief moments I can, since my life is very much kid-focused these days. Iā€™m really inspired by liquid drum ā€˜n bass and bass centric music but still lean into fun tech-house.

iHR: What kind of music are you listening to these days?

GT: This is a funny question because I RARELY listen to music unless I'm DJing or teaching yoga. Right now on my playlist, it is filled with a lot of East Forest, and itā€™s very instrumental heavy. I also just went to an Incubus concert!

moonlit enchantment robe

"I would pair this amazing robe on top of yoga wear for my dj set for a seamless transition from yoga teacher to dj moment"

infinite expanse platform sneakers

"These are so perfect for off the grid campout! I love them! SO great for dancing around alll night and exploring all the grounds and the stages!"

iHR: Are you working on any new music?Ā

GT: Yes!!! I have a two track release coming out in October on Quack Squawk Honk! And then a full EP with many different genres, coming out on Jubileeā€™s label Magic City!

iHR: You're about to host a yoga class at Off The Grid Campout, can you tell us about that? What inspired you to combine yoga and music into one?

GT: I am so excited to be back at Off The Grid Campout again! I love when Iā€™m able to combine my two passions like this! This all happened very organically because when promoters and festivals got wind in 2012 that I was a yoga teacher, nightclubs and festivals wanted to start offering classes hosted by me. However, the Off The Grid experience will be so special and one-of-a-kind, and I plan on doing a meditation as well to really ground everybody into a loving community vibe that already exists at OTG, and setting that intention will be a beautiful co-creative moment.

dark meets light rainbow reflective bodysuit

"I love this for when i am DJing until sunrise, and then I could easily teach yoga after."

shroom time ultra crop top

"Especially for the cold desert nights having something to keep me warm and still feel sexy and represent mushroom consciousness."

iHR: You have two daughters. Has music been a passion that they share with you?

GT: Absolutely! My almost 2-year-old is very into electronic music and loves to dance and watch me DJ. And my 10 year old EvaLina is a wonderful singer and can play the piano quite well.Ā

false alarm fishnet rainbow reflective chaps

"I would throw these chaps on over the bodysuit and its a wrap!"

lace flowerfields maxi skirt

"This skirt checks all the boxes for me, from dj sets, to leading a meditation I am here for this."

iHR: What is your favorite festival or rave memory?

GT: Ahhhh this is a tough one to answer because I have so many, but thereā€™s always a special place in my heart for the festivals Iā€™ve DJed while pregnant!!!

iHR: Tell us about your festival/rave style:

GT: Ahhh! I like multi-functioning outfits that can double as a yoga teacher outfit or a fun DJ outfit, but I definitely lean into mesh and lace a lot!!

iHR: If you created a piece of kandi today, what would it say?

GT: Include it All (like the vocals of my track override)

Or

Genre Fluid (because I always play so many)
